River trips, slalom and some other stuff too!

Some dates for your diaries!

Here are details of the Medway river trip taking place on 6 April!

If you’ve never paddled down a river before, here is your chance.

You’ll also be able to build skills towards your BCU 2 Star award.  You can develop these further through sessions at TYKs on Sundays (see Tyks for dates).

There is lots of Medway recreational info on the web if you would like a walk alongside the river. There’s a pub called the Anchor Inn at Yalding weir if you need to warm up whilst waiting for us.
The plan is to paddle from Yalding to Teston lock and back, provided the river isn’t flowing too fast, so no shuttle will be needed.
If the river is flowing fast, we’ll do a shuttle to Hartlake Bridge near Golden Green and paddle downstream to Yalding.
Kit hire
We shall organise a group kit issuing session in March at our canoe kit store in Oxted for both river trips (March and April).  It would help me fix a date if you could state on your form which of the following suit best:
Saturday morning 16 March
Sunday morning 17 March
Sunday morning 24 March
Annual Kit Loan Scheme
If you find that you are paddling regularly, you might like to take advantage of our annual loan scheme – details about this are on the Club website.
Basically you sign an agreement to “look after” a kayak for a year and treat it as your own.  You need to be able to store it securely under cover and have a roof rack.  You give a deposit, which we return to you for safe return of the boat, less a small wear and tear fee.  You can also hire the soft kit to go with it – paddle, buoyancy aid, cagoule, helmet, spraydeck.

Other trips and events coming up

Sundays
You can develop your skills even more through sessions at TYKs on Sundays (see Club website) and at polo sessions in the pool. At these sessions we can teach you how to look after yourself – support strokes, rolling back up – and how to help other people.
Once you have all the skills in place, we can assess you for your 2 Star award and then on to 3 Star.
We’re trying to put lots of dates in the diary to help your progression – and as your confidence grows, you’ll feel ready for whitewater trips.
Have you spotted the following?

We’re running a placid water river trip on the River Mole.  See the Club website www.tckc.org.uk.

Website

Thank you to all who have contributed so far!
If you haven’t yet, please take a moment to register on the new website.  An online membership form will need to be filled in for each family member.  This is a move towards an electronic membership system. Please note your data is not shared and is held on a secure private server.

Please also send photos and video that you would like to see on the site to:  Tandridgecanoekayakclub@gmail.com or to your section leader and we will do our best to use your photos.
The ‘members only’ area is restricted to club members only and has a gallery feature where we will showcase photos from events and trips plus video.  The best of which, may win an end of year prize!
We now have a member’s forum – please use it to rant, rave, chat about anything (Canoe/kayak related, of course!) you can also use this as a platform to advertise items for sale or wanted items.

The site is still in development stages, so please bear with us as we iron out some teething problems, but ultimately it is a club site, so we really would appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

Also, forward any ‘links’ you would like to see on the site.
