We hired the artificial whitewater course at the Nene, Northampton, on 24 January so we could introduce Club paddlers to the fun of whitewater kayaking. Being man-made, the course feels very safe and is a great place to learn new skills and improve existing skills.
We were blessed with a mild day, around 15 degrees, very unusual for “mid-winter”. From our gathering of around 30 paddlers, we formed small paddle groups of 3 to 4 people, each led by a suitably qualified coach. A lot of fun was had and everyone gained enough confidence to try out new techniques over the 3 hour session.
Many of the people who came along are asking for a return visit, so we’ve provisionally booked Sunday 21 February. If you’re interested, whether a novice to whitewater or a paddler wanting to improve, please complete the application form and send with your £20 cheque. The sooner the better, as we need 20 minimum to confirm the booking. The lastminute.com approach is no good at all when we’re trying to book a venue for exclusive use!
